Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring lubricant used to help lubricate the joints and underlying skin tissue–but some experts claim it can also fight the signs of insomnia, a common but potentially serious sleeping disorder. According to Byron J. Richards, a wellness expert, this lubricant reportedly assists in the natural repair of the body’s circadian rhythm while you sleep, improving the quality and length of sleep. However, the clinical evidence surrounding its efficacy is lacking–and many traditional health experts believe it’s a poor treatment for insomnia.
Do the Ingredients in Hyaluronic Acid help People Sleep?
Not according to health experts. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), hyaluronic acid has only been clinically shown–and proven–to be beneficial for osteoarthritis sufferers and as an eye fluid replacement during surgery. There isn’t a single study that draws even an indirect connection between hyaluronic acid and sleep. Health experts from WebMD.com also agree with the FDA: they say there is no factual basis to support its use for anything aside from the recommendations given by the FDA. They even go as far to say that it is ineffective for “preventing the effects of aging”, which may include insomnia.
Is Hyaluronic Acid safe?
There are little medical interactions associated with this product. It may not be safe for women who are breastfeeding or are pregnant.
Hyaluronic acid has not been shown to play any role in the treatment of insomnia or sleeplessness. There are far more effective supplements available to consumers.
